WEST END THEATRES
There are 44 commercial theatres in the West End, the majority built before 1939.
The Really Useful Group is the largest owner of West End theatres with over 11,000 seats in 7 theatres.
Other significant owners include the Ambassador Theatre Group (who own over 7,000 seats in 10 theatres) and Live Nation (who own nearly 10,000 seats).
Theatres rarely tend to be sold. The most recent large scale sale was the disposal of four Play Houses by The Really Useful Group in 2005. They were purchased by Nimax Theatres.
According to the Society of London Theatres, record receipts were achieved in 2006 of £400,804,654.
The number of shows in production was 268 and attendance in the West End was 12,357,427. Both of these are the highest on record.
